How much does a website cost?

The most common question I get asked, yet the only quick answer I can give is – it depends on the nature of the project.

As with all things in life, when it comes to websites it’s true that you get what you pay for. You could go for the cheapest quote but it’s money wasted if the site can’t be found in search engines and is poorly designed.

Just send me your project details and we’ll take it from there or alternatively, read my post on how much should a website cost.

How long will it take to finish my website?

This depends on the complexity, nature and size of the project as well as whether or not you require it to be complete to coincide with an advertising campaign.

However if after a design has been approved and the text and image content has been supplied:

– a small brochure website with a blog can be completed within days;
– a gallery / portfolio website can be completed within 1 week;
– a CMS website can be completed within 2 weeks;
– an eCommerce system usually within 1 month.

What is your website build process?

I have defined a 4-step web design process whereby I:

PLAN your site’s structure and layout using pen & paper;
DESIGN your site’s look and feel using Photoshop;
DEVELOP your site using the latest technologies and standards;
DELIVER and maintain your site to keep it up to date.

I’m not saying this is the ONLY way to build a website by any means, it’s just a process that has proven over time to work for me.

Will my site work in different browsers?

Yes, I develop all my sites to be web standards compliant and check compatibility with Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari and Opera. I will also let you see how your website looks on the iPad and iPhone.

What is a brochure website?

This is the most basic website I offer and is the equivalent of a brochure on the internet. This type of site is ideal if you don’t need to update your website very often.

This project is a brochure website for a Blackrock based client.

A content management system allows you to update the content of your website and add pages and articles yourself. I make sure they are clean and simple to use regardless what your level of IT proficiency.

WordPress is my CMS of choice.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is essentially an address used for your website and your email (e.g. www.robbiedover.ie and info@robbiedover.ie). Registering a domain name is the first step to getting a website. Domain name renewal carries a very small annual fee.

What is web hosting?

For a web site to be available on the internet, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it needs to be hosted on a web server which is available and online at all times. An annual fee is charged for this service depending on the size and needs of a website.

What is search engine optimisation (SEO)?

Search engine optimisation is the art of making your website rank highly with search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. This is vitally important as it’s a bit pointless having a beautiful website if nobody can find it to see it!
